On the afternoon of May 25, the 2nd China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) and China-Africa Economic and Trade In-depth Cooperation Pilot Zone Promotion Conference, Yiwu was held in Yiwu, Zhejiang. He Baoxiang, Vice Governor of Hunan Provincial People's Government, Zheng Wei, Second-level Inspector of Department of Western Asian and North African Affairs of the Ministry of Commerce, and Jin Hong, Deputy Director of Trade Development Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China attended the conference and delivered speeches. Other attendees of the promotion conference included the ambassadors of South Africa, Ethiopia, Namibia, Zambia, Tanzania, Algeria and other countries to China and representatives of the African Union. Chen Xianchun, Deputy Secretary-General of the Hunan Provincial People's Government, presided over the promotion conference. Chen Huiqing, Director of the Department of Commerce of Hunan Province, delivered a promotion presentation of the 2nd China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) and China-Africa Economic and Trade In-depth Cooperation Pilot Zone, and Zhu Jun, Chief Economist of the Department of Commerce of Zhejiang Province, introduced the participation of theme provinces for the 2nd CAETE. Nearly 400 people attended the conference, including the Ministry of Commerce and other central ministries and commissions and directly-controlled departments of Zhejiang and Hunan Province and municipal and prefectural representatives, and representatives of central enterprises, local enterprises, and business associations.
He Baoxiang said in his speech that the CAETE is Hunan's first national, international, and normalized economic and trade platform. As the host of the CAETE, Hunan organically integrated the successful operation of the Expo with the establishment of the China (Hunan) Pilot Free Trade Zone, accelerated the construction of the China-Africa Economic and Trade In-depth Cooperation Pilot Zone, and comprehensively established a long-term mechanism for China-Africa economic and trade cooperation and exchanges.

He Baoxiang sent an enthusiastic invitation to a wide range of businessmen. He said that Yiwu is a "charming city" connecting China and Africa. He hoped to take this window to promote cooperation between Chinese and African governments, think tanks, enterprises, financial institutions and other forces to jointly create a new situation of in-depth economic and trade cooperation between China and Africa featuring win-win cooperation and hand-in-hand progress. He hoped that the wide range of businessmen can promote good policies, opportunities, and prospects for China-Africa cooperation, drive more African friends to integrate into the general trend of China-Africa cooperation, and strive for the forerunners of China-Africa cooperation.
Zheng Wei said that giving full play to the role of the CAETE as a platform and window will help China and Africa further consolidate traditional cooperation, tap cooperation potential, and improve cooperation quality. At the 2nd CAETE, "we will literally promote cooperation in a number of high-quality projects, raise the senses of participation and gain of all participants, and make every effort to make the expo unique, branded, and effective."

Jin Hong said that the Trade Development Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce, as one of the organizers of the Expo, will work together with all parties to make various preparations. All parties in China and Africa are welcome to use the platform of the Expo to exchange cooperation information, align cooperation needs, and gather a stronger driving force for China-Africa cooperation to jointly promote the smooth progress of all preparations for the Expo.

John Mbulelo Toli, Consul of the South African Consulate in Shanghai, said that the CAETE is an important platform to promote the development of China-Africa investment and trade. The 2nd CAETE will actively promote the vigorous development of economic trade and cooperation between China and Africa.

Chen Huiqing, Director of the Department of Commerce of Hunan Province, introduced at the promotion conference that the 2nd CAETE will be held in Changsha, Hunan from September 26 to 28, 2021. The main schedule will consist of conference forums and exhibitions. The exhibitions will be held both online and offline, with a total exhibition area of 64,000 square meters, including six major offline exhibition areas, and "Cloud Conference", "Cloud Exhibition" and "Cloud Negotiation" will be simultaneously opened. In terms of conferences and forums, major events, thematic forums, many economic and trade negotiations and related supporting activities will be organized.
Zhu Jun, Chief Economist of the Department of Commerce of Zhejiang Province, said that Zhejiang, as the theme province of the 2nd CAETE, will establish a special working mechanism, set up an all-round and high-profile delegation, and strive to achieve the goal of a larger scale, higher level, better quality and effectiveness, and more solid results of participation.
Lusekelo Solomon Gwassa, Tanzania Counsellor to China, and Luo Xiao, Managing Director of Hunan Gaoqiao Grand Market Co., Ltd. also made relevant recommendations.
At the promotion conference, Hunan Gaoqiao Grand Market and Yiwu China Small Commodity Mall signed a cooperation agreement to jointly develop the international market; the management committee of Changsha High-tech Zone signed memorandums of cooperation with the Economic Development Board Mauritius (EDB) and the Tanzania Overseas Entrepreneur Association in China. Standard Bank Investment Advisory (Beijing) Ltd, the China-based arm of South Africa's Standard Bank, signed an agreement with the Exhibition Department to exhibit at the CAETE.
