The successful holding of the first China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) has injected strong impetus into China-Africa economic and trade cooperation. In 2020, the China (Hunan) Pilot Free Trade Zone was launched and the pilot zone for in-depth economic and trade cooperation between China and Africa was implemented, providing greater space for China-Africa economic and trade cooperation.

Since the beginning of this year, Hunan has continued to promote China-Africa economic and trade cooperation, where the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo is located, and the situation is gratifying. From January to March 2021, Hunan Province’s total trade value with Africa was 7.5 billion yuan, with a year-on-year increase of 37.1%; exports to Africa increased by 59% to 4.49 billion yuan, and imports from Africa rose 13.8%, to 3.01 billion yuan.

The second China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo is planned to be held in Changsha from September 26 to 28 this year. At that time, China and Africa will strengthen cooperation in food and agricultural products, medical and health industries, infrastructure construction, industrialization, and industrial chains.
Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the Hunan Provincial Party Committee and Governor, said that Hunan will thoroughly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important expositions on opening to the outside world. It will leverage the resources across the province to make the 2nd CAETE a success, and contribute to higher-level opening-up in the new era. Human will serve the national strategy of opening up with full strength. By giving full play to CAETE's role as a linking platform and its online advantages, Hunan will tell China's stories, serve the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative, and contribute to the establishment of a "dual circulation" development pattern whereby domestic and foreign markets can boost each other.
