African countries wind power development report: South Africa, Egypt and Morocco showing best performance

Morocco's El Economista reported on February 16 that the Global Wind Energy Council recently released a report on the development of wind power in African countries, saying that South Africa, Egypt and Morocco showed best performance with total installed capacity reaching 3.3 GW, 1.8 GW and 1.2 GW, respectively.


According to the report, in 2019, the total newly installed capacity of wind power in Africa and the Middle East was 894 MW, showing a YoY decrease of 7%. Over the past five years, the installed capacity of wind power in the region has grown by 10,732 MW, with South Africa, Egypt, Morocco and Saudi Arabia being the major regions witnessing growth.
