On the morning of the 22nd, the first session of the Organizing Committee of the first China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) was held in Beijing. Mr. Zhong Shan, Minister of Commerce of PRC, and Mr. Xu Dazhe, Governor of Hunan Provincial People’s Government, addressed the session. Xu stressed that we must adhere to the principles of "innovation, pragmatism, high efficiency, and frugality", and make province-wide efforts to make the Expo an international event with distinctive features as well as outstanding and fruitful results, to fully demonstrate an opening Hunan.
Mr. He Baoxiang, Vice Governor of Hunan Provincial People’s Government presided over the session, and Mr. Wang Qun, Secretary General of Hunan Provincial People’s Government attended the session.
Zhong said that the first CAETE was a major measure to further strengthen China-Africa cooperation. Guided by Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the ideas and actions of the Expo should be in line with the central government’s policy on China-Africa cooperation, and each of the work should be carried out thoroughly and meticulously to ensure the success of the Expo, and to make new contributions to deepening China-Africa comprehensive strategic partnership. To strengthen overall coordination, all member units of the Organizing Committee should enhance their sense of responsibility and mission, reinforce communication and coordination, form an overall pattern of complementary work and resource sharing, fully mobilize the initiative of all parties, and ensure that the preparatory work is highly completed on schedule. We shall focus on practical results by leveraging the complementarity of China and Africa to promote more fruitful cooperation in the fields of infrastructure construction and industrial development.
The China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo, Xu Dazhe said, was an action taken under the first initiative of “the Eight Major Initiatives” proposed by President Xi Jingping. As the host of the Expo, Hunan was given high trust and full recognition. The Expo is of great significance to deepen the profound traditional friendship between Africa and Hunan, promote Hunan’s participation in the “the Belt and Road Initiative”, and open up even wider as a hinterland province. We shall put in place the key instructions of President Xi Jinping’s keynote speech at the 2018 FOCAC Beijing Summit. By shouldering the responsibility of cooperating with China’s the major diplomatic activities, we will make the Expo a well-recognized window, a platform, as well as a brand for the China-Africa cooperation. We will always adhere to the principle of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith, and the principle of pursuing the greater good and shared interests. Further, we hope the Expo will attract more African countries to join “the Belt and Road Initiative”, better serve China’s opening up policy and global diplomatic strategy, and make it an important approach to implementing “the Eight Major Initiatives”. Besides, we will leverage Hunan’ s strength in manufacturing industry，modern agriculture，modern seed industry and etc. to deepen the China-Africa economic and trade partnership and nurture new economic growth area. Based on the good foundation of cooperation，the next step for Hunan is to solicit and showcase the results of cooperation achievement through various media, invite companies to attend the Expo, encourage active participation of the central SOEs and competitive enterprises from the province, and call for full participation and support from all sectors. It is hoped that members of the organizing committee will strengthen the organizational leadership by giving guidance and support so that the Expo will be a successful international event.
