On the afternoon of January 9th, the promotion conference for the first China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) was held at Hunan Hotel in Beijing. Mr. Li Chenggang, Assistant Minister of Commerce of PRC, Mr. He Baoxiang, Vice Governor of Hunan Provincial People's Government and H.E. Chrispus Kiyonga, Ambassador of Uganda to China addressed the conference. Mr. Luo Jianjun, Deputy Secretary General of Hunan Provincial People's Government, moderated the conference. Mr. Xu Xiangping (Director General of Department of Commerce of Hunan Province) and Deputy Director General Mr. Li Xinqiu attended the conference. Xu was also interviewed by the media. The conference was attended by 68 diplomats of African countries to China, 2 representatives from international and regional organizations, 97 representatives from business associations and enterprises, 40 officials from ministries and commissions as well as provincial departments, and journalists of nearly 60 media outlets.
Li said the CAETE aimed to create a new mechanism for economic and trade cooperation with Africa, a new platform for implementation of economic and trade initiatives of FOCAC, and a new window for economic and trade cooperation with Africa at the local level, so as to further strengthen China-Africa economic and trade cooperation in the new era.
He expressed that Hunan people and African people enjoyed close friendship. The industrial structures of Hunan and Africa are highly complementary; therefore, the two sides have a solid foundation, prospect and great potential for cooperation. On behalf of the CPC Hunan Provincial committee and the provincial government, he extended invitation to the first CAETE.
H.E. Chrispus Kiyonga, Ambassador of Uganda to China said that China was Africa’s largest trade partner, and Uganda was looking forward to joining in the first CAETE in Changsha, Hunan, in June.
The promo video “Hand in Hand with Africa” was shown at the conference, introducing Hunan-Africa cooperation and the expo, which was applauded by the attendees.
